Mental Fitness Myths

The best treatment for someone with a mental health condition is therapy and medication.

Not so. It's been found that healthy habits like exercise when done regularly is far superior to medication and even talk therapy. When you add targeted mental workouts to the mix, the results are even better.

It's impossible to prevent a mental health condition. Actually, preventing emotional struggles and many mental health conditions is similar to preventing illnesses like hypertension or heart disease. Exercise and healthy habits are not foolproof protection, but they're a huge help!

People with ADHD are just bad at starting things. Actually, some are very good at starting things but, they may have another ADHD challenge, like troubling finishing what they start. There is no single type of neurodivergent.

When it comes to mental illness, it's your genes, not your environment, that determines whether you develop one. New evidence around root causes of mental illness concludes that our environment has a far greater influence on our mental health than our genes.

Stress is a fact of life. While it’s true that stress is common, there are compelling reasons to challenge the notion that it’s an unavoidable part of life. If collectively we refuse to accept high stress as the norm, it could lead to societal shifts that prioritize work-life balance.
